Joy as Resistance

The news keeps getting heavier and heavier, and writing about moments of joy and gratitude in life so often feels trite and privileged. Yet, I don't think that noticing beauty, noticing love, noticing when the tsunami doesn't hit the shores, is dismissive of the pain in the world. I think in the noticing of joy, big and small, the capacity to care expands. The more joy you can hold opens you up to being able to hold the realities of pain, too. Not either/or, but both/and. Our world really needs us to be able to hold both so we can hold hands with each other in these places we find ourselves.

This weekend was mountains and stream crossings, butterfly whirlwinds and French toast, family and friends. Joy brimmed. And, we watched the continual unraveling of democracy and purposeful starvation of children. Holding this as a reality is a heavy lift. But I'm glad I'm surrounded by people who hold it with me, bringing their own joy into this world, one choice at a time. #JoyAsResistance
